Feb. 20, 2007 AMHERST, Mass. - Senior forward Chris Capraro (Medford, Mass.) and redshirt junior forward Gary Forbes (Brooklyn, N.Y.) have been named UMass/Dinn Bros. Co-Athletes of the Week for their individual outstanding performances during the week ending February 20.
Capraro scored his team-leading third gamewinner as well as his team-leading 26th point of the season in UMass' 3-2 win at Vermont on Friday. The goal also marked Capraro's fourth consecutive game with a point. He ranks first among his teammates in league scoring with 15, while setting a new season-high in points overall.
Forbes propelled UMass to two key A-10 wins at Fordham and Dayton. In his return to New York City, Forbes netted 11 points against the Rams in front of a national television audience. He continued his recent string of strong play at Dayton where he led the Minutemen with 23 points. Forbes also dished out four assists and five rebounds in the Minutemen's first win at UD Arena since 1999.
Capraro and Forbes will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon from 12-1 Wednesday in Campus Center Room 1009. The scheduled speakers are Men's Basketball Coach Travis Ford and Men's Lacrosse Coach Greg Canella. Wednesday's luncheon will also be Youth Day, which will feature a special children's friendly menu and price as well. Various coaches, athletes and Sam the Minuteman will be on hand to sign autographs.
