Eight UMass Rowers Compete At C.R.A.S.H.-B. Sprints

Eight members of the UMass women's rowing team competed in the C.R.A.S.H.-B. Sprints on Sunday at Agganis Arena in Boston. Five Minutewomen were entered in the Women's Openweight at the World Indoor Rowing Championships while three Massachusetts rowers, each of whom raced as part of the Lightweight 8+ that took home the gold at last season's Dad Vail Regatta, competed in the Women's Lightweight Open.

Megan Donovan led all UMass rowers with a ninth place finish in lightweight competition, while Adrienne Breef-Pilz placed 31st amongst Women's Open competitors. To read the complete story and to view results, click here.
The Daily Collegian's Stephen Hewitt has a preview of the UMass rowing team's final race of the fall season, the Foot of the Charles, this weekend. This is be the last race for the Minutewomen before their annual training trip in Deland, Fla.

Collegian Looks Ahead To Rowing's Head Of The Fish

The Daily Collegian's Stephen Hewitt has a preview of UMass Rowing's Head of the Fish Regatta this weekend in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The Minutewomen will be competing in 11 races during the two-day regatta.

"This is a fun race," UMass coach Jim Dietz said. "It's one of the shorter head races, and most of the gals will race two or three times. It's to get out there as many times as we can and just enjoy it."

The Minutewomen only have three races remaining on their 2010 Fall schedule, and will head to Saratoga, N.Y. for the Head of the Fish on Saturday

Collegian: Rowing Solid In Opener

Stephen Hewitt of the Daily Collegian covered UMass Rowing's season opener at the Head of the Housatonic last weekend in Shelton, Conn. "The 16th annual event, which covers a 2.7 mile strip as the course, attracted rowers of all ages, from novice high school students to veteran masters, in one of the biggest races in New England has to offer"

The Minutewomen will host the Pumpkin Head Regatta this Saturday at 8 AM on the Connecticut River.
Junior rower Emily Boucher is competing in the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Brest, Belarus. Boucher will be racing in the Lightweight Single Sculls event, and finished fourth in her heat with a time of 8:08.51 on Thursday. She held close to the leaders through the first 1000M before the eventual top-finisher from Belarus pulled away in the final stretch. Read more about the World Rowing Championships here.
