Leveille To Play For Team USA In Champion Challenge

UMass All-American Kevin Leveille will be playing for Team USA in the Champion Challenge at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla, in an exhibition game against Notre Dame. The Champion Challenge is set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30 with the game set to re-air on ESPNU at 10 p.m. that evening.

MLL Regular-Season Ends; Fiore Scored Two Goals

The final weekend of action in Major League Lacrosse wrapped up on Saturday. The MLL Championship Weekend Semifinals are set with the following match-ups on Aug. 21: Chesapeake Bayhawks vs. Boston Cannons and Long Island Lizards vs. Denver Outlaws.

Here's a look at UMass' alums in the MLL after 12 weeks of regular-season action.

  • First-place Boston lost to the Bayhawks, 16-15 in an overtime thriller. Jack Reid played defense for the Cannons.
  • Long Island topped Toronto, 13-7 as Chris Fiore scored two goals and added an assist for the Lizards.
  • In the Chicago Machine's final game, they lost to Denver 18-8. UMass products Diogo Godoi (four groundballs), Kevin Leveille and Brett Garber played for Chicago.
  • Vote For Kevin Leveille For MLL All-Time Team

    Major League Lacrosse is holding a fan vote for its 10th Anniversary All-Time Team. UMass legend Kevin Leveille is on the ballot as on the top attackers over the decade of the league. Vote for the 2003 UMass grad often right here!

    Leveille finishes the 2010 MLL season Denver Outlaws on Saturday. Watch the game on ESPN3.com.

    Weekend Round-Up From Major League Lacrosse

    The teams are set for Major League Lacrosse's Championship Weekend and two former Minutemen will be a part of the four-team event. Both the Boston Cannons with Jack Reid and Long Island Lizards with Chris Fiore will be in action the weekend of Aug. 21-22.

    Here's a look at Saturday's results and how UMass' alums performed.

  • In the Lizards 16-11 win over Toronto, Fiore had an assist. With Toronto, Jake Deane had three groundballs in his third game with the Nationals.
  • The Chicago Machine fell 20-12 to the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Both Brett Garber and Kevin Leveille scored goals and Diogo Godoi played on defense.
  • The Boston Cannons routed the Denver Outlaws, 16-5, as Reid had two groundballs.
  • Kevin Leveille Featured In Inside Lacrosse

    UMass All-American Kevin Leveille is featured in the newest edition of Inside Lacrosse.  He is the subject of this month's Shooting From The Hip. He mentions his time at UMass and repping the Minutemen. Leveille says, "We played a great style of lacrosse there. Coach Greg Cannella really let us get the ball up and down the field and we didn't have too many rules, which I think is the way lacrosse was meant to be played. It's helped me in MLL."
    On Saturday UMass alums will be in action as Boston with Jack Reid hosts Toronto while Chicago with Kevin Leveille, Brett Garber and Diogo Godoi play at Denver.
    Here's an interesting look at the Chicago Machine and how they have played "six home games" at neutral sites. The Machine have lots of UMass ties with alums Kevin Leveille, Brett Garber and Diogo Godoi on the roster. UMass Hall of Famer inductee Scott Hiller is a team executive. Chicago plays at Denver on Saturday.

    In front of a professional lacrosse record crowd of 11,771, the MLL All-Stars suffered a dramatic 13-12 loss to Team USA. Former Minuteman Kevin Leveille had two goals for the MLL squad.

    In MLL action this weekend many UMass alums will be on the field as the Boston Cannons play the Chicago Machine in Virginia Beach, Va., on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will air live on Comcast SportsNet New England. Look for former Minutemen with Boston in Jack Reid and Jim Connolly and with the Chicago: Kevin Leveille, Brett Garber and Diogo Godoi.
