Congratulations to incoming freshman defenseman Brandon Montour, who became the highest draft pick in UMass history when the Anaheim Ducks selected him 55th overall in the second round.

When interviewed following his selection, Montour talked about why he chose to come to UMass:

"I think the biggest thing was the coaches. I love the coaches there. It's a great organization both school-wise and hockey-wise and it's not too far down the road from my house, meaning my family can come down whenever. It's just unbelievable there, in Hockey East, one of the best leagues in college hockey."

UMass hockey commit Brandon Montour, who signed with the Minutemen last November, is highlighted in the most recent Prospector Files on NHL.com, which lists a First Team draft-eligible pick six series at each position from the major junior and international ranks.

Here is the portion of the piece that mentions Montour:

Committed to the University of Massachusetts, Montour leads all defensemen in the league with 52 points and is third with a plus-30 rating in 53 games for the Black Hawks. The 5-11, 186-pound right-hander is No. 186 on Central Scouting's midterm rankings. He also has five goals and 22 points on the power play.

Rajanen likes what he sees in Montour, whose ambition outside of hockey is to become an architect.

"He is having a great year; very solid puck play," Rajanen said. "He's producing points and has some bite to his game. I believe he's a solid defender and good prospect."
