Dainton Re-Signs With Springfield Falcons

Goaltender Paul Dainton became the latest UMass hockey alum to sign a new contract as he inked a one-year AHL deal with the Springfield Falcons for 2012-13.

In his first season as a pro, Dainton played in 28 games for the Falcons and posted a record of 13-12-1 with a .893 save percentage and a 3.11 goals-against average.

Earlier this week, Alex Berry signed with the Hershey Bears for 2012-13 and Matt Irwin received a one-year extension with the San Jose Sharks, while Mike Kostka joined the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

AHL Playoff Update

Four former Minutemen are currently in the AHL Playoffs which also got underway this week. Casey Wellman's Houston Aeros won game one of their series with Peoria, 4-1, on Wednesday. David Leaderer's Milwaukee Admirals defeated Texas 5-2 in game one of that series. Alex Berry's Norfolk Admirals will start their series with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton tonight, while Greg Mauldin's Lake Erie Monsters will host Manitoba on Saturday.

Former Minutemen Gear Up For AHL Playoffs

So far four teams featuring for members of the Mass Attack have clinched spots for the AHL Playoffs as the regular-season winds down to its final couple of games. One more spot in the 16 team field will be decided by Sunday which is the last day of the regular-season.

Alex Berry Candidate For AHL Man Of The Year

Former UMass hockey standout Alex Berry has been named the Norfolk Admirals Man of the Year for his tireless work in the community. He is a candidate for the AHL IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year Award.

Alex Berry is in training camp with the Norfolk Admirals and HockeysFuture.com hasa season preview of the club along with a few nice mentions of what Berry will add to the lineup. The Admirals are the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Berry and the Admirals will open the regular season against a few familiar faces as the Worcester Sharks will head down to Virginia. If Berry makes the club, he will likely play against Justin Braun, Matt Irwin, James Marcou and Cory Quirk of the Sharks.

Alex Berry Traded To Tampa Bay

The Toronto Maple Leafs traded Alex Berry to Tampa Bay along with Stefano Giliati for defenseman Matt Lashoff. Berry picked up three goals and four assists in 55 games with the Toronto Marlies last season. The Salem News, NESN, The Toronto Sun, and The Sporting News also ran the story.
