Liam Coen begins his first season at Rhode Island and will serve as the quarterbacks coach. Coen arrives in Kingston after overseeing the Ivy League's No. 1 passing game at Brown University.
As a college quarterback at Massachusetts he put together one of the finest careers in school history. He ranks first in passing yards (11,031) passing efficiency (152.92), completion percentage (63.9), touchdown passes (90), completions (830), and attempts (1,303).
Recently the former UMass quarterback took some time to discuss his new post with the University of Rhode Island football program.

Coen comes to URI after a single season at Brown University, where he served as the Bears' quarterbacks coach. The former La Salle Academy star and four-year standout at UMass will fill the same position with the Rams, bringing with him a résumé that includes the six school records that he set with the Minutemen and a single season with the Alabama Vipers of the Arena Football League.
Liam Coen was the Gatorade Player of the Year in high school at La Salle Academy, and he followed that up by leading the UMass Minutemen to a national title game in college, but now Coen has traded his helmet for a headset. As they prepare for the Ivy League season, Brown University has welcomed Coen as their new quarterbacks coach.
"I think we have a special guy in Liam Coen," Brown head coach Phil Estes said. "He's one of the best quarterbacks to ever come out of Rhode Island."

He takes a look at Liam Coen, UMass' all-time leading passer, who is the new quarterbacks coach at Brown. Reynolds chronicles Coen's tough road since graduating from UMass in 2008 and the path he took to get to his job at Brown.

When the 2010 football season rolls around, All-Ivy quarterback Kyle Newhall-Caballero '11 will be under the tutelage of a coach who has had his own share of success in Rhode Island football. Liam Coen -- a native of Warwick, R.I., and a former star high school player at La Salle Academy in Providence -- was named the new quarterbacks coach by Head Coach Phil Estes in late June.
