In his latest update on UMass Football, Matt Vautour of the Daily Hampshire Gazette focuses in on the Minutemen's No. 5 in the backfield -- Jamar Smith. The last two tailbacks to wear No. 5 are All-Americans Steve Baylark and Marcel Shipp, who combined for 11,582 career yards. "All the tools are there. That's why he got the No. 5," UMass coach Kevin Morris said. "He's a guy that we think can make an impact."

Vautour also mentions the addition to Nick Speller and the brother combinations on the UMass roster.
