UMass football will be going against one of its own when it begins play in the Mid-American Conference in 2012.

Former UMass captain and defensive lineman Ben Albert was hired to coach the linebackers at Temple University. Albert came to the Owls from the NFL, spending a year coaching the defensive line at Jacksonville alongside another UMass ex patriot, Joe Cullen.

Albert was a candidate for the UMass head coaching job when Don Brown left to be the offensive coordinator at Maryland.

He was the associate head coach at Delaware before taking the Jacksonville position. He has also coached at UMass, Richmond and Rutgers.
