Bud Light UMass Football Radio Show Podcast Now Available (11/22)

Host Cody Chrusciel spoke with head coach Charley Molnar along with player guests Vance Barton, Antoine Tharpe and Adam Richard.

Tuesday was the first day of full-pad practice for the UMass football team. Afternoon showers kept things cool as the Minutemen continued their preseason camp at McGuirk Stadium. Wednesday will bring the first two-a-day practices of the year with a morning and evening session.

Monday's team MVP's went to tailback Alan Williams, wide receiver Jesse Julmiste and defensive back Antoine Tharpe. Tharpe earned his second MVP of the season. A third MVP honor gets him "the Money Jersey" which is green.

Happy belated birthday to Joey Sbordon of men's swimming & diving who celebrated his birthday on July 15. Happy belated birthdays to football's Antoine Tharpe, and Tyler Major, Molly Papish of women's swimming & diving, Patrick Holmes of men's soccer, who all celebrated their birthday on July 16.

Republican: Secondary Knows Its Importance

The Springfield Republican has a story on UMass' secondary and how freshmen Mike Lee and Antoine Tharpe have been thrust into significant positions. Last week at James Madison, Tharpe and Lee not only provided answers, but exclamation points as well.

"One gave us the play that ignited us, the other gave us the game-finisher,'' coach Kevin Morris said as UMass got ready for Saturday's home game against Maine. "There's a lot of pressure back there, and at times this year, they've been exposed. But they keep plugging away, trying to figure out the college game, and they're getting better.''
