UMass Field Hockey Alum Kate Heineman Joins Dartmouth Staff

Former UMass field hockey student-athlete Kate Heineman (2009-12) joined the coaching ranks recently as Dartmouth College announced the Massachusetts graduate as the newest addition to their 2013 staff. Heineman completed her playing career in 2012 by helping the Minutewomen to the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Ellicott City, Md., native tallied 29 career points for UMass on seven goals and 15 assists. Heineman had her best individual season as a senior, producing 14 points on two goals and 10 assists while adding a trio of defensive saves.

The University of Massachusetts Minutewomen will begin their A-10 title defense against Maine on Aug. 30 and Michigan the following day as part of the University of Maine Invitational. The Maroon and White will complete their first home contest of the year against UMass-Lowell on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. Admission to all of UMass' home field hockey games will be free of charge. Heineman is the second member of her graduating class to earn a NCAA Division I coaching position this summer, joining Callie Sweigart, who was hired by the Minutewomen in July.
