Former UMass field hockey standout Jill Powers was recently named the head coach at Becker College in Leicester, Mass. Powers recorded 64 points during four years of collegiate field hockey, playing the 2006-07 seasons at Rhode Island before joining the Minutewomen for 2008-09. Powers best individual season came in 2008, when the Leominster, Mass., native recorded 21 points on nine goals and three assists while helping UMass to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

UMass field hockey opens its season with a contest at the University of Maine on Friday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. The home-opener is set for Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m., when the Minutewomen host UMass-Lowell.
