A pair of former Minutemen represented UMass in Major League Lacrosse during the previous week, as Will Manny (2010-13) and Jack Reid (2003-06) were active for the Boston Cannons during their heartbreaking overtime loss to New York, 16-15 on July 19.
Manny notched four points via three goals and an assist while he also scooped up a groundball. The 2013 UMass graduate opened scoring only two minutes, 23 seconds into the first quarter and added another goal less than eight minutes later. Manny provided a buzz-beating tally only one second before the first quarter expired to push Boston ahead, 5-4 and assisted on the strike that put the Cannons in front, 14-13 late in the fourth quarter.
Reid was active on close defense for the Cannons, making his fifth appearance on the season. In addition to his work on the field for Boston, Reid is currently fundraising for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which battles childhood cancer, alongside his teammates and head coach.
