UMass women's basketball kicked off the 2012-13 campaign with an 83-53 drubbing of Kent State at the Mullins Center on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen were paced by four players scoring in double-figures, including senior center Jasmine Watson's game-high 21. Watson used her final basket of the game to become the 18th Minutewoman to eclipse the 1,000-point mark in program history. Freshman Rashida Timbilla tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards to help the winning effort, the only known Minutewoman to secure a double-double during her first contest as a true-freshman.

Dick Baker of the Springfield Republican focused his recap of the victory on Jasmine Watson's milestone.

Daniel Malone spoke of Watson's success throughout her tenure with the Minutewomen while covering the 30-point victory over Kent State for the Daily Collegian.

The Minutewomen continue their season with their first road trip and first midweek contest as UMass travels to New Britain, Conn., for a Tuesday, Nov. 13 contest against Central Connecticut. Full coverage of the contest can be found on UMassAthletics.com. UMass returns home the following weekend to take on Quinnipiac at the Mullins Center on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., with tickets available through the UMass Ticket Central.
