A few months back, there was speculation about Notre Dame joining Hockey East following the creation of the Big Ten Hockey Conference. Now, according to the Grand Forks Herald, the University of North Dakota will leave the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for a new start-up conference in 2013-14. Five other Western schools, Notre Dame and a possible eighth school are possible new members. This could mean the WCHA and CCHA will have to merge as each conference will have just five teams.
