Former Bishop Connolly standout Shane Vivieros is bringing his college football act as close as possible to his home town of Fall River. This Saturday the UMass defensive back and his Minutemen teammates will be playing the University of New Hampshire in the inaugural Colonial Clash at 3:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

You'll have to excuse Viveiros if he isn't awed playing this game in Gillette. Last month, the Minutemen's starting rover (strong safety) played the University of Michigan before 100,000-plus fans in Ann Arbor. UMass lost that wild one 42-37.

"The crowd was awesome," the 220-pound red-shirt junior said. "It was a constant roar in your ears from the start."
A blessing of being a visiting defender in Ann Arbor, Viveiros said, is the Michigan fans keep the noise under control for the sake of their offense. But when the opposing offense is on the field trying to call signals, the volume goes off the meter. "You can feel the stadium vibrate," Viveiros said.

No. 23 on your UMass roster, Viveiros is fourth on the Minutemen (4-2) in tackles (24, 13 solo). He had four solos and two assists in last weekend's loss to Richmond - by the bizarre score of 11-10.

Viveiros said 30 to 40 fans from the Fall River area are headed to Foxboro for Saturday's game. That's a serious commitment to Viveiros since tickets are priced at $34.50. The seats are, at least, lower level.
