Former Minuteman Matt Torra took a shutout into the ninth and finished with eight hits and two runs, one earned, working 8.1 innings in the Reno Aces' 6-2 win over Nashville last night. He walked one and punched out two in a 106-pitch effort. The Reno Gazette Journal also has a recap of the game and mentions that Torra has pitched six complete games in his career and owns one of two in franchise history, which came against Las Vegas on July 1.
Another former UMass pitcher, Mitchell Clegg, also started yesterday, continuing his rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Nationals. In his longest outing since coming off the DL, Clegg threw four innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with no walks and one strikeout vs. the Gulf Coast League Mets.
